The semiprecious gemstone's name Larimar comes from two words the name Larissa and the Spanish word for the sea: mar.
In 1974, Miguel Méndez, after rediscovering Larimar with Peace Corps volunteer Norman Rilling, named the stone after her doughter Larissa.
Rediscover, becouse in 1916 Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren of the Barahona Parish requested permission at the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Mining to explore and exploit the mine of a certain blue rock he had discovered. Since nobody knew what the priest was talking about the request fell through and the blue stone discovery was delayed.
Celebrity inspired silver jewelry
Larimar is a variety of pectolite which can be found exclusively in the Caribbean, in a small inaccessible region in Dominican Republic.
It's also called Blue Stone or Dolphin Stone.
Larimar is also called the Atlantis Stone, becouse Edgar Cayce, “The Sleeping Prophet” (1877 - 1945), indicated that part of Atlantis could be found in the Caribbean. He also said that one would find a blue stone with extraordinary healing attributes, a description that corresponds to Larimar.

The gemstone Larimar's powers are believed to helps us view events from different perspectives, to enlighten, to heal the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual body.
